About  Me

Hi there, I’m Dr. Zarya Rubin, MD

I’m a Harvard-educated functional medicine physician, a TEDx speaker, and a burnout expert.

Take a Deep Breath

Did that feel nearly impossible? Like you don’t even have time to slow down for a second?

Does the crush of anxiety and never-ending to-do lists running through your brain feel exhausting? Do you want to just crawl under a rock and disappear, while constantly repeating “Calgon, take me away…!

What I'm Passionate About

I’m passionate about helping high-achieving women in midlife struggling to manage stress, burnout and chronic health issues. I want to help you take a deep breath, regain calm, take back control of your health, and become energized and stress-proof! Why did I choose to do this work? Because I've been there.

When chronic stress, anxiety and burnout caused me to leave my conventional medical practice, I knew I needed to make some serious changes if I wanted to lead a fulfilling, authentic life. I wasn't satisfied that illness and the hamster wheel of stress was my "new normal" and that I would just have to accept it and live with it. I knew I wanted better. And I want that for you, too.

My whole life I had bounced from extremes, going from one high-stress job and pressure cooker to another - I finally realized I was using work as a means to escape from problems I didn't necessarily want to face; I was chasing success in order to avoid dealing with the much scarier pit of anxiety and trauma, and all of it was leading to burnout. But from the outside? I was living the dream, more successful than ever.

So What Changed?

After I had my daughter, I entered a new phase of exhaustion, one that was even worse than working nights at the hospital. I was irritable, couldn’t get out of bed, and constantly ill. I had heart palpitations, panic attacks, stomach pains, and tremors. I was eating a healthy diet (I am actually one of those crazy people who adores kale and quinoa), so why was I so sick?

None of it made sense to me until I finally realized that years of untreated stress, anxiety, and PTSD had taken a toll -- not just on my mental health, but my physical health as well: autoimmune disease, emergency surgery, adrenal fatigue. I learned about the stress response and the mind-body connection; how chronic stress, anxiety and burnout can lead not only to mental health problems, but can cause physical illness as well.

I finally got help from specialists, healers, and a coach of my own, who all helped put me back together. I went back to school, studying Integrative Nutrition and Functional Medicine to gain an even deeper understanding of the mind-body connection and how to help women heal. And now I'm here to share everything I've learned with you, to help you on your journey.

the TL:DR VERSION

My journey of self-discovery has led me to holistic approaches to health and wellness, healing from the inside out, balancing mind and body. I am so happy with where I am today and would love to share what I've learned with you.

What makes me different from other physicians and coaches?

I studied at Harvard and Columbia and come from the world of conventional medicine, which gives me an in-depth understanding of illness and disease. But I also truly believe in holistic health and wellness, and am well-versed in the practices of yoga and meditation. I trained at the world-renowned Institute For Integrative Nutrition, where we studied over 100 dietary theories and worked with mentors like Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Deepak Chopra, and more. I have also experienced coaching myself and seen the transformative effects it can have, even in a short period of time.

I went back to school, studying Integrative Nutrition to gain an even deeper understanding of the mind-body connection and how to help women heal. I then completed all three levels of advanced functional medicine training at The School of Applied Functional Medicine, to bring you cutting-edge approaches to get to the root cause of illness and chart a path towards healing. And now I'm here to share everything I've learned with you, to help you on your journey.
